John Bunyan
Most readers will be familiar with Bunyan’s ‘Pilgrims Progress’, but beyond this his works are less known; so this compendium draws together some of his other writings worthy of broader recognition. Starting with an extract from his autobiography ‘Grace Abounding’, on his life-time’s struggles with temptation, this is followed by the no less compelling ‘Jerusalem Sinner Saved.’ The collection concludes with Bunyan’s final sermon, delivered in the July of 1688, just before his death.
Bunyan should be held as one of the highest of Puritan divines; indeed few suffered more than he for defending and standing fast on the doctrines of free grace, and as a leading light amongst the Nonconformists. It is therefore hoped that this collection of his writings will serve to do justice to the merits of this man of God as theologian as well as allegorist.
Along with its companion volumes 'The Very Best of John Calvin', and 'The Very Best of Martin Luther', we are building a valuable library of the writings of key men in the history of reformed thought.
